Porsche has surprised the Geneva Motor Show with this rugged Mission E Cross Turismo, in the mould of a raised Audi Allroad model. Designed to gauge opinion, the Cross Turismo could sit as an alternative to the upcoming Porsche Mission E saloon within a new sub-brand of all-electric models.
Porsche says that with four doors, four seats and four-wheel drive, the Mission E Cross Turismo means “every ski slope is easy to reach”. Its boot is also said to be big enough to carry surfboards or even an electric bicycle.
The Cross Turismo"s silhouette is similar to the current Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo, with a lengthy bonnet and elongated coupe-like roofline. That’s where the similarities end, though, because huge black plastic wheelarch extensions and side skirts accentuate its off-road pretensions. Even with eye-catching 20-inch alloy wheels, the tyres boast a deeper sidewall than most Porsche models.
The nose is defined by matrix LED headlights with four daytime running lights at each corner, along with air curtains designed to channel air past the front wheels and reduce drag, thereby increasing driving range.

Under its adventurous bodywork, its powertrain is shared with the Mission E, so it boasts two electric motors capable of producing more than 600bhp. In theory, this will give it a 0-62mph sprint time of around 3.5 seconds – quicker than a Tesla Model X 100D and an entire second faster than a Jaguar I-Pace.
The chassis includes all-wheel steering to reduce its turning circle at low speeds, and adaptive air suspension that can increase ground clearance by 50mm when needed. Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) is also fitted, but as well as minimising body lean in corners, it has also been tuned to reduce the side-to-side swaying motion often experienced on rough terrain. Torque can also be controlled at each wheel to help improve traction and agility.

In normal driving, a range of around 250 miles is promised, and impressively Porsche claims this can be replenished in “just over 15 minutes” using rapid charging. The Mission E Cross Turismo can also be topped up using wireless induction charging at home, or at a public charging station equipped with the technology. Using a Porsche home energy storage system, owners will also be able to charge their car with power from home solar panels.

Inside, the backrests of both rear seats have a load-through hatch for skis or other long pieces of luggage, or you can fold the seats down entirely. There’s also a rail system with adjustable straps to ensure items are secure, and the boot has been designed to accommodate a Porsche e-bike, so you can continue your journey on two wheels.

The wing-shaped dashboard features widescreen displays for the driver and passenger, while there’s a freestanding TFT instrument display boasting virtual gauges. Using eye-tracking technology, the information you require is brought to the foreground just by glancing at it. The front passenger can also interact with their infotainment screen using eye-tracking and touch, accessing the sat nav, media, climate control and telephone.
